CJRO News April 25 to May 1, 2022

Hello, bonjour, and welcome to CJRO News on CJRO Radio. I’m Candice Vetter, reporting from North Russell.

The Township of Russell has appointed Bruce Armstrong, Fire Chief for the Russell station, as temporary Full-Time Fire Chief. The one year appointment will start May 1st. Armstrong has been with the Fire Department for over 30 years, and has been Fire Chief for the Russell Station since 2004.

The Township previously had two chiefs, Brian Duhamel in Embrun and Armstrong in Russell. Duhamel announced his retirement earlier this year. Establishing a new full-time Fire Chief position has been a long-term goal for the Township, which grabbed the opportunity to work with Armstrong on improving the Fire Department before he retires.

Also in Russell, Council announced Dan Faughnan is the Township’s new Chief Administrative Officer, following a long recruitment process that began last December. Faughnan’s background includes many years as a Senior Executive Manager with Public Safety Canada and over 15 years in the Canadian Armed Forces Reserve.

Last Saturday eight people launched a challenge that reminds us of when roads were non-existent and transportation was by canoe. The group started below the dam on the Castor River in the village of Russell. Their first stop was Embrun where they, and their canoes, went to the Tuques de Broue brewery then to the Etienne-Brulé brewery for a meal. Then they travelled to the Cassel Brewery in Casselman for dinner. Denis Labreche of CJRO talked to them about this extraordinary experience. Listen to his interview on Priorité Locale on-air this week or at cjroradio.com/podcast.
