On Sunday, February 23, the Carlsbad Springs Optimist Club welcomes the community to brunch at 10:15 a.m. at the Carlsbad Springs Community Centre, at 6020 Piperville Road. Gaston Desjardins is the chef. New member Shannon Anderson will also be sworn in.
The Russell Kin Club’s Catch the Ace lottery is heating up. The jackpot is now almost $53,000 dollars, and only 28 numbers remain. The weekly win is over $3,500. The next draw is Sunday, February 23 at Etienne Brule Brewery in Embrun. Tickets are available at many retail outlets in Russell, Embrun, Metcalfe, and Winchester. The Limoges Firefighters’ Association is hosting supper and Bingo, on Friday, February 28, at the Limoges Community Centre, at 205 Limoges Road. Supper starts at 5 p.m. and Bingo at 7 p.m. Fireball tickets will also be available.

The program helps employers create summer job opportunities and valuable work experience for youth aged 15 to 30. A Russell Trivia Night and Silent Auction will take place Saturday, March 21. Russell Trivia Nights raise funds for various causes. This one is in support of the Fortier Family, and their five-year-old daughter Lily. Lily is on dialysis and preparing for a kidney transplant. Another Trivia Night on March 28 will benefit the 5 Cyclone Air Cadets.
Spring cleaning time is approaching. So if you have unwanted items, save them for March It On Out on March 28. The Russell and District Horticultural Society hosts this annual swap meet at St. Thomas Aquinas High School, at 1211 South Russell Road in the Village of Russell. Bring your donations the Friday night before the event, and volunteers will sort them into categories. The next day, for a small fee, everyone can come and take away as much or as little as they like.
The St-Guillaume parish, in partnership with the Vars Community Association, the Vars Optimist Club, and the BPG Buying Group, are seeking golfers, sponsors and volunteers.
