CJRO News June 14 to June 20, 2021
Hello, bonjour, and welcome to CJRO News on CJRO Radio. I’m Candice Vetter reporting remotely.
Yes, you heard right. Because we’re expanding our listening area we are changing the station’s name from Carlsbad Vars Radio to CJRO Radio. We expect to be fully operating by June 24th!
With our expansion into Russell Township, CJRO is looking for a sales representative to help us gain more community business partners. The position is commission-based and will be reviewed in the second year. Community partners will get a banner on our website all year and two 30-second ads that play 10 to 15 times daily during regular programming. Current community partners will be invited to renew their partnerships this fall.

Reopening has begun, meaning, yes, you can enter stores again, as well as enjoy outdoor fitness, pools and non-contact sports. Gyms and personal care are still closed. In person road tests for driver’s license are resuming this week.
The Eastern Ontario Health Unit has produced a guide to attending demonstrations and protests in a Covid –safe way. Consider participating in virtual events, but if you join in person, start by taking a Covid-19 self-assessment test (available online); keep a minimum distance of two meters from others; wear a three layer mask; avoid touching it or your face; bring hand sanitizer and use it often; don’t share water, food, posters or other items; and avoid shouting because that projects respiratory droplets into the air. Use signs, drums or musical instruments to show support instead. After the demonstration, remove and wash clothes immediately, shower as soon as you can, disinfect materials you carried, monitor yourself for Covid symptoms, and avoid contact with those at high risk of severe disease, such as elderly people and those with serious health conditions.
The City of Ottawa has a fire ban in effect, and the Township of Russell has a watering ban in effect due to a watermain break which feeds the pumping station. So watering lawns, filling or adding pool water and washing vehicles outdoors is restricted until further notice.
The City is developing a new Solid Waste Master Plan, to be completed in 2022. The City is stating “Nothing has been decided yet – your input counts! …We need meaningful conversations with you to help ensure the new Solid Waste Master Plan works for everyone.”
As our entire listening area has lived under the threat of the proposed Taggart mega-landfill for over a decade, this is a burning issue locally, so get your say in.
