The owners of the Homestead Pub in Embrun are the new owners of the Russell Township building that currently houses the Étienne Brûlée brewery at 893 Notre-Dame Street in Embrun. The Review newspaper reported that it sold for $750,000, which is $175,000 below the Township’s asking price, and that the Homestead Pub will be moving there.
The east-end vaccination clinic has moved from the Ruddy Family Y at 265 Centrum Boulevard to Sir Wilfrid Laurier Secondary School at 1515 Tenth Line Road. See the Ottawa Public Health website for information on services and hours.
Due to Stage 2 LRT work, the westbound Highway 174 is reduced to one lane at Champlain Street until early May.

Also in road news Canaan Road, Mer-Bleue Road, Dunning Road, O’Toole Road, portions of Colonial Road, Wall Road from Tenth Line to Trim, Trim from Navan Road to Colonial Road, and three sections of Innes Road will be renewed this year.

The Rural Ottawa Youth Mental Health Check-in Survey is open to rural youth aged 12 to 24 and is live until April 11th at surveymonkey.com/r/86XBKM8. There is also a free one-day training summit for mentors of rural youth this Saturday, April 1st at the Manotick Community Centre at 5572 Dr. Leach Drive in Manotick. Mentors can be anyone over age 16 who works with youth in rural Ottawa. The summit will include Safe Talk, How to Help a Friend or Motivational Interviewing. See ruralottawayouth.ca for information.
On April 6th, at 7 p.m., a live question and answer session will be broadcast on Russell Township’s Facebook and Youtube pages about the municipal budget. You can send questions in advance to info@russell.ca or participate live.

This Saturday, April 1st, the Kin Club of Russell and the Russell Curling Club are holding a Las Vegas Show with Elvis Tribute artist Darryl Burwash. For information and tickets see

Speaking of the Kin Club, the jackpot of the Kin Club of Russell’s Catch the Ace lottery has passed half a million dollars. The current jackpot is estimated at $523,000 and the weekly prize at $23,000. Purchases can be made at 26 retail locations or online at kinclubofrussell.ca.
Several Easter events are coming up. The Russell Historical Society is hosting an Easter craft event Sunday, April 2nd from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Keith Boyd Museum in the village of Russell.



The Friends of the Russell Library are raffling off a chock-full-of-stuff Easter basket. Tickets are available at the Russell Library.
Local Optimist Clubs are hosting Easter egg hunts. In Embrun it is April 2nd, that’s this Sunday, from 9 a.m. to noon at Yahoo Park. In Vars it is Monday, April 10th at 2 p.m. at Alcide Trudeau Park. Outdoors, rain or shine. Bring your own basket.
The Russell Curling Club is hosting its final bonspiel of the season Tuesday, April 11th to Saturday, April 15th. Preregister. Non-members are welcome. Friday night includes pizza and live entertainment.
A Country Evening is coming Saturday, April 15th at 7 p.m. at the Lucien-Delorme Community Center in Wendover. To reserve tickets contact Sophie Bisson at 613-620-5804.
The Vars Optimist Club Trivia night is back on April 22nd at the St. Guillaume School gym, with bilingual trivia, a bar and DJ. Teams can be up to six players. For information or to register go to varsoptimiste@gmail.com.
The Optimist Club is offering first aid courses given by Ménard Safety Courses for teenagers 15+ and parents on April 22nd and 29th, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Carlsbad Springs Community Centre at 6020 Piperville Road, Carlsbad Springs. For more information see https://menardsafetycourses.ca.
Dance for CF, a DJ dance fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis Canada, is Saturday, April 29th at 7 p.m. at the Community Centre in Embrun. All proceeds will go to Cystic Fibrosis Canada.
This year is the 30th anniversary of Cleaning the Capital. Register your cleaning project for Clean the Capital 2023 by May 1st. Clean-up kits including garbage bags, recycling bags and gloves will be available at ten City of Ottawa facilities.
