CJRO News May 2 to May 8, 2022
Hello, bonjour, and welcome to CJRO News on CJRO Radio. I’m Candice Vetter, reporting from Embrun.
Are you considering running in a municipal election? Starting now and going until August 19th, at 2 p.m., candidates can officially file their nomination papers to run for councillor or mayoral positions.
It’s spring cleaning time so the Carlsbad Springs Optimist Club asks our listeners to save their metal, electronics, bottles and aluminum cans and bring them to the Community Centre on Saturday, May 28th. The Club’s annual recycling drive will run from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 6020 Piperville Road. In partnership with Ecology Ottawa the club will give a free tree seedling to donors. Lucie Régimbald is looking for helping hands for the recycling activity. You can reach her at regimbalde178@rogers.com or by phone at 613-821-3431. Check the poster at cjroradio.com/news to see what you can donate.
The City of Ottawa has a Planning Primer Program to help residents learn about the mysteries of its land-use planning process. The first part is the afternoon of May 3rd, but the second is the evening of May 10th so you can still register at engageottawa.ca. There have been reports of dog attacks in the Sarsfield area. Local residents have contacted Councillor Kitts and are awaiting action from the City.

Are you considering working in the restaurant industry? There are numerous jobs available in many of the restaurants, brasseries and food trucks in our listening area.
Pearson Street, home of the smashburger, has moved its truck from behind Tuque de Broue to the ball diamond near Yahoo Park in Embrun. The former Tuque de Broue location will be occupied by a Moonshine BBQ Smokehouse food truck, and those operators are seeking a cook. When CJRO has talked to management at the new A&W, Grilled Shawarma and Asian Express in Embrun, the Big Bite Bistro in Russell, and Palki Cuisine in Carlsbad Springs, all have said they need staff. Now Pizza Hut will be opening in Embrun soon and they are actively seeking staff for the new location, which will be at 1032 Notre Dame.
Registration for the Carlsbad Springs Optimist Club soccer will take place on May 16th at 6 p.m. at Ludger Landry Park. For information, contact Véronique Trudel at trudel.veronique@gmail.com or 819-743-7873.
The Navan-Vars UCW is holding a yard and bake sale on Saturday, May 14th from 9 a.m. to noon at the Navan-Vars United Church in Navan.
St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Russell has resumed St. Mary’s Closet. Clothes for the whole family are available for free or a donation on Wednesdays in the afternoon and again in the evening. We will be interviewing the Reverend Anne Quick and some of the volunteers later in May, about the closet, but in the meantime check it out at 139 Castor Street.
Some residents of Piperville Road in Carlsbad Springs are planning a garage sale on Saturday, June 4th which will also feature garden plants. They invite other residents to participate. This will also be a good time to put free items at the end of your driveway.
We are interested in seeing listener photos. If you have a newsworthy photo or a picture of spring flowers you would like to share send it to newscjro@gmail.com to be posted on our website.
