In advance of the Ontario provincial election Eco East is hosting a virtual All-Candidates Meeting on May 18th at 7 p.m. The bilingual meeting will be moderated by Max Richard Myre of Hawkmyer media, and will inform residents about how candidates of our region will represent environmental interests if elected on June 2nd. The Metcalfe Farmer’s Market is back up and running on Saturday mornings until mid-October at the fairgrounds in Metcalfe.


The Russell and District Horticultural Society Plant Sale is on Saturday, May 21st in Russell at MacDougall Park on Craig Street, from 8 a.m. to noon.


Don’t forget the Carlsbad Springs Optimist Club’s annual recycling drive is Saturday, May 28th from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the community centre at 6020 Piperville Road. In partnership with Ecology Ottawa the club will give a free tree seedling to donors. Check out the poster at cjroradio.com/news to see what you can donate.


The Club has also announced that last Saturday, May 7th its Roadblock for CHEO fundraiser collected over $4,600 for the children's hospital.


The OPP is seeking the public’s help to identify a person of interest in connection with an incident in Russell. The released photo, which you can see on our website, shows what looks like a young-looking male on a purple and pink multicoloured dirt bike wearing a bright helmet with yellow markings. The photo was released on May 4th. If you or anyone you know are aware of the individual's identity, you are asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.




South Nation Conservation is in the process of opening its public areas and boat launches in time for the May long weekend. It has also launched its 75km Challenge.
