The Province of Ontario has approved Ottawa's new Official Plan with added modifications, including widening the urban boundary and allowing taller buildings along minor corridors of the city. The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing released the official plan approval on November 4th.
Amendments to the Official Plan include expanding the urban boundaries in Kanata, Stittsville, Orleans and the south end of Ottawa. The Tewin Development, a 445-acre area east of Leitrim Road and west of the Village of Carlsbad Springs, remains in the plan. The project is proposed by the Taggart Group and the Algonquins of Ontario. It proposes building 15,000 new homes in a completely rural area, with an estimated 45,000 new residents. The Findlay Creek suburb is also going to be allowed to expand dramatically.

Remembrance Day is this Friday, November 11th. Here is a local list:
At the Russell Legion, which is the biggest one locally, the parade starts at 10:15 a.m., and the service starts at 10:45. A luncheon follows at the Curling Club.
In Embrun the ceremony is at the Embrun Cenotaph outside the Township Hall at 717 Notre Dame at 3 p.m. in the afternoon.
In Limoges it is at 11 a.m. at the Cenotaph on Limoges Road.
In Morewood it starts at 10:45 a.m. at the park in the village.
In Navan it starts at 10:45 a.m. at the Navan Cenotaph. Colonial Road between Delson and Fairgreen Avenue will be closed to traffic from 10:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on that day.

Vars held their service last Sunday.
The next meeting of the Carlsbad Springs Community Association is Thursday, November 17th at 7:00 p.m. at the Carlsbad Springs Community Center. All are welcome to participate.
The Russell Fire Department and the Russell Lions Club are inviting people, businesses and community groups to enter a float for the Santa Parade! The parade will be on Sunday, November 27th, at 1:00 p.m. To register, email rfdlionschristmasparade@hotmail.com.
The Maple Leaf Club Christmas Market at the German Club will be held November 18th to 20th at the club building at 3928 Farmers Way in Carlsbad Springs. There will be many vendors, German meals and good beer. Take-out will be available.
The annual Children's Christmas hosted by the Optimist Club of Carlsbad Springs will be Sunday, December 11th. Children must be registered in advance so Pere Noel knows whose presents to bring. A flyer with details will be mailed out this month.
In Russell the St. Andrews and St. Pauls United Church is hosting a Jiggs Dinner on Saturday November 26th, at 4:30 p.m. To take out or sit in.
Also on November 26th, Russell Rocks, a non-profit organization that raises funds for the community, is hosting its first concert at the Embrun Community Centre (Camille Piche) at 7 p.m. The Jevon Rudder Band, Rainwater Whiskey and Sticks ‘n Stones will perform. Attendees must be over 19. Tickets are available at Eventbrite.ca.
Russell Kin Club’s Catch the Ace jackpot is climbing quickly. It is now $129,000. Last week’s weekly prize was over $7,000. Tickets are $10 and are available online and at many retail locations in the local area.
