Hello, bonjour, and welcome to CJRO News on CJRO Radio. I’m Candice Vetter, reporting from Embrun.
First, election news. In Russell Township as we all know Pierre Leroux was acclaimed Mayor. It appears the four councillors elected are Lisa Deacon with a whopping 3096 votes and no signs, Mike Tarnowski with 2780, Jamie Laurin with 2736, and Marc Lalonde with 2597. Charles Armstrong received 1901 votes, Tony Baas 1469, and Eric Greer with 1050. These are the unofficial results but are expected to be confirmed.

Mark Sutcliffe has won the race for Ottawa’s mayor with just over 51 per cent of votes, followed by Catherine McKenney with 38 per cent and Bob Chiarelli with about five per cent.
In Osgoode Ward the councillor elected is George Darouze who won with only 238 more votes than Doug Thompson, in a race that came down to the wire. Darouze had 4,353 votes and Thompson had 4,115.
In Navan-South Ward the councillor elected is Catherine Kitts, who received 76 per cent of the votes. Yvette Ashiri came in second, followed by Shamsa Sheikh Ahmed.
The Police Village of Russell trustees are: Stephanie MacMillan with 474 votes, Julianne Duern Bankley with 441,and incumbent Mike Miller with 401. Dave Dyer received 398 and Denise St-Jean received 220.
Russell Kin Club’s Catch the Ace jackpot has passed the six-figure threshold and is now $104,000. The weekly prize is estimated over $6,000. Tickets are $10 and are available online and at plenty of retail locations in the local area.

The spectacular ABBA Story Gala is this Saturday, October 29th at the Camille Piche hall in Embrun. Tickets are on sale at kinclubofrussell.ca.
The Russell Run is Saturday, October 29th, and costumed runners are welcome. See russellrunclub.com for more information.
Also on October 29th, the Octogone and Optimist clubs of Vars host a Hallowe’en Dance at Ecole St-Guillaume’s gym at 5750 Buckland Road in Vars from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The Eastern Ontario Snowmobile Club Halloween Bash is October 29th from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Oasis RV Resort in Limoges. Contact the club for tickets.
The Monsters’ Ball follows on Sunday, October 30th from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at La Maison des Arts in Embrun. For more information see maison-des-arts.com.
Also on Sunday the Carlsbad Springs Optimist Club’s Halloween party for children in the Carlsbad Springs, Edwards and Ramsayville will be held outdoors from 1 p.m.to 3 p.m. at the Carlsbad Springs Community Center. To register contact the club via their Facebook page.
Le Pavillon Seniors Residence in Embrun is hosting a Christmas bazaar on Saturday, November 5th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the residence at 1122 Notre-Dame Street. Donations to the Embrun foodbank are appreciated.
On November 8th the last total lunar eclipse of the year will be visible in the early morning hours in our time zone. Totality is at 5:16 a.m. and lasts about an hour, and the eclipse ends at 6:41 a.m. as the moon sets. Lunar eclipses are safe to look at directly.
In Russell the St. Andrews and St. Pauls United Church is hosting a Jiggs Dinner on Saturday November 26th, at 4:30 p.m. To take out or sit in.
