This Wednesday, October 5th, a candidates' debate for Osgoode Ward will be held in Carlsbad Springs. The event will take place live in the Carlsbad Springs Community Center gymnasium from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The debate will be broadcast on 107.7 FM in Carlsbad Springs, 107.9 FM in Vars and also available online (cjroradio.com) and via the Radio Player Canada app and the Tune In app. Osgoode Ward residents are invited to attend the debate. Please send your questions for applicants in advance to cjrofm@rogers.com by September 30.

In Ontario all adults 18 years of age and older are eligible for the booster dose of the bivalent vaccine, which may provide more targeted protection against Omicron variants. Appointments can be made through the Provincial COVID-19 Immunization Portal, by calling the Provincial Immunization InfoCentre (ICPV) at 1-833-943-3900, or through primary care or pharmacies.
The Embrun and Russell arenas are ready for the winter season. Free skate and shinny hockey sessions started at the end of September. Schedules can be found on the Township of Russell web page at Russell.ca under Arenas and Skating.
Construction has begun for the new snow disposal facility near 550 Notre-Dame Street in Embrun. The road in front of the Park is the access point and is being rebuilt. Work should be done at the end of November. The site will include a snow pad, truck area and a melt pond. This $2.2 million construction project is part of the Township’s 2018-2022 Strategic Plan and aligns with reducing environmental impact. The new site will treat and control the flow of melting snow, unlike the Township’s existing site.
Join Eco-East this month for a series of nature walks, possible thanks to a grant from Défi Coureurs des bois Challenge. The first walk is Saturday, October 8th, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the Alfred Bog, one of the largest bogs in our region of Ontario. This free adults-oriented walk will explore the habitat in detail. The second walk is family friendly on Sunday, October 16th, 10 a.m. to 12 noon at Jessup's Falls Conservation Area. With Owen Clarkin, explore the riverside and forested habitat at the small yet biodiverse conservation area at Jessups Falls. Healthy, locally-sourced snacks will be supplied. Space is limited, registration required.
On October 15th the 5 Cyclone Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets will be the recipients of a Russell Trivia Night fundraiser. Get your tickets for teams of six by contacting trivia@5cycloneaircadets.ca.

On Saturday October 15th Fall Fest will be held from 1 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Navan Fairgrounds. The family event will have games, food, crafts, and lots of harvest activities. In Metcalfe, the Community Association invites residents to celebrate with them during the Metcalfe Community Association Fall Feast on Saturday, October 15th. Tickets are $25. The same day, the Richelieu Embrun club hosts the club's 50th anniversary celebrations at the Camille Piché community center at 8 rue Blais in Embrun on Saturday, October 15th. The celebration starts at 4:30 p.m. with beverages and appetizers, a four-course dinner at 6 p.m., a review, and a dance party. Tickets are $120 per person. The Eastern Ontario Snowmobile Club fundraiser Halloween Bash is October 29th from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Oasis RV Resort in Limoges. There will be door prizes and more.
