Hello, bonjour, and welcome to CJRO News on CJRO Radio. I’m Candice Vetter, reporting from North Russell.


Russell Township Council has approved a project manager and design consultant for the Township of Russell’s planned Recreation Complex.

Turner & Townsend will lead as Project Manager and MacLennan Jaunkalns Miller Architects will lead as Design Consultants.

The report and discussion were held in closed session. Council has authorized a copy of the report to be included in the meeting minutes, which will be available September 14th.

Details about the project are posted on the Township Recreation Complex webpage. Additional questions can be sent to the Communications Department.


On Saturday, September 17th, the Russell and District Historical Society hosts its Heritage Festival, featuring open house at the museum, a scavenger hunt, historical plaque tours, horse and wagon tours, soapbox politics, and ice-cream making. Also in Russell that day St. Mary's Church is having a community clothing event outside the church. In the evening there will be Art at Night as well, so lots of interesting events coming up.




Also on this Saturday Russell Township Council Candidate Tony Baas is holding a Meet and Greet at 183 Hamilton Road from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The Metcalfe Community Association is hosting a debate between the Osgoode Ward candidates on September 20th from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Larry Robinson Arena in Metcalfe.


In Carlsbad Springs, which is now part of Osgoode Ward, along with Vars, the same candidates will be debating on October 5th, in the evening, at the Carlsbad Springs Community Centre on Piperville Road.




The Harvest Market returns to the Cumberland Village Heritage Museum on September 24th. Vendors are encouraged to submit an entry. Visit the Cumberland Farmers Market website for more information on how to apply.


The Company of Fools will perform Hamlet (in English) at J.T. Bradley's in Navan on September 26th at 7 p.m. Incorporating clown, slapstick and puppet elements, the show is suitable for all ages and fun for the whole family. For more information, visit fools.ca.


In Embrun on October 1 at 7:00 p.m., the Embrun Country Soiree will take place at the Community Centre. Several artists will be performing, such as Les Filles de…, Fred Delorme, Yvan Petit, Reynald Lafleur and Phil Denault. For information or to obtain tickets, contact Diane Lalonde at 613-899-1946. The event is organized by the Club Joie de Vivre 50+ of Embrun.


On October 15th the 5 Cyclone Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron will be the recipients of a Russell Trivia Night fundraiser upstairs in the arena. Get your tickets for teams of six by contacting trivia@5cycloneaircadets.ca.


Russell Kin Club’s Catch the Ace jackpot is still climbing and now estimated at over $59,000, and the weekly prize at $3,500. Tickets are $10 and are available online and at many retail locations in the local area.
