The Township of Russell announced a fire ban this morning, Tuesday, June 6th, and the City of Ottawa put one on a few days ago. This is in response to the dry, hot weather increasing the wildfire risk. It is no surprise considering the sky is grey and the sun is orange this morning, caused by fires in Quebec and Ontario. Air quality warnings have been issued and the forecast from firesmoke.ca suggests it will get worse. Fires are growing closer to the Ottawa area, with forest fires from Val d'Or to the Saguenay, and from James Bay to Pennsylvania. Yesterday, June 5th, a fire started on Centennial Lake near Renfrew. Cyclonic wind action is bringing the smoke from the fires in the Laurentians and in northern Quebec and Ontario directly over our area.
