The OPP has sent out a media release stating that stolen property, including two furnaces from a construction site in Russell, has been recovered and a father and son charged. Over $100,000 worth of items was recovered from a home in Cornwall on January 14. Police are also seeking the owners of one King Canada Generator, one Porter Cable air compressor, one York air conditioner, one Environsense hot water tank, and 25 boxes of Mainstays engineered flooring which were also recovered and the owners unknown. Antoine Campagna, from South Glengarry, and Joseph Campagna, from Cornwall, were jointly charged with Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and Trafficking in stolen goods under $5,000. For those who believe the missing item(s) are theirs, officers are asking people to contact the Russell County OPP detachment at 613-443-4499.
The Nation Municipality has asked for volunteers to join its Public Library Board. An information session for those interested will be Monday, February 3, at 6:30 p.m. at the Municipal Hall in Casselman. Register by Friday, January 24. In December The Nation announced it is closing its three library branches for three months during the winter due to lack of board members, many of whom resigned due to budget issues. In late 2024 Council approved a budget reducing funding for its libraries from $650,000 to $100,000.
In the Township of Russell the Public Library announced a partnership with the Valoris Foundation on January 17. Valoris donated $70,000 towards development of a youth space in the Library's planned Embrun branch. Over 80 local teens, including the Township of Russell’s Teen Advisory Committee, provided input about the multifunctional environment and youth corner.
The Embrun Carnival continues this week, including the Embrun Firemen’s Association annual brunch on Sunday, January 26 at the Embrun Community Centre at 8 rue Blais.
The Carlsbad Springs Community Association hosts its first Family Fun Day event for 2025. Residents of Carlsbad Springs, Ramsayville and Edwards areas can enter the draw for a family of four to attend Disney on Ice at Canadian Tire Centre in early February. To enter children can send drawings to cluboptimistecarlsbad@gmail.com by January 28 and state which show, language and date is preferred.
