Hello, this is Rose Grzela and this is this week's news on CJRO Radio.

The Nation Public Library is set to reopen its doors on Tuesday, June 17. While full programming has not yet resumed, all three branches will once again offer core services, including borrowing, returns, and general inquiries. The library’s programs are expected to return at a later date.
According to library staff, the reopening marks a new chapter for the institution. The current team, though small, is focused on relaunching services with transparency and community engagement at the forefront. Over the coming months, The Nation Public Library plans to gradually expand its services, add new staff, and introduce fresh opportunities for learning and connection.
Residents may notice an unusual vehicle making its way through Ottawa streets this summer. While it may resemble a standard SUV with a camera mounted on top, it’s actually part of the City’s Mobile Mapping of Traffic Infrastructure Project.
The initiative, a collaboration between several municipal departments, falls under Ottawa’s Digital Twin and Reality Capture program. The vehicle is equipped with a Mosaic Meridian system, a high-precision mobile mapping tool that combines a 360-degree camera with LiDAR sensors.
Its mission is to create a detailed digital inventory of the city’s traffic infrastructure. Similar in appearance to Google Street View, the technology is designed specifically to document and assess road assets—supporting efforts to maintain and improve transportation safety and efficiency across Ottawa.

The Township of Russell is hosting the third edition of Meet Me on Main Street in Russell! The event will take place on July 15, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. This year’s community gathering will showcase food and beverage kiosks, local nonprofit organizations, live music, face painting, youth activities, and fire safety demonstrations. New for 2025, the Teen Advisory Committee will organize a dedicated Teen Zone, offering a space with activities designed especially for teenagers.
The Vars Community Association is inviting residents to a Canada Day celebration at Alcide Trudeau Park on July 1st. The festivities will run from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. and will feature live music, fireworks, bouncy castles, a food vendor, family-friendly activities, and more. The event promises a full day of entertainment for all ages.
The Township of Russell has approved a contract with Coalwater Excavation Inc. to proceed with the replacement of the stormwater drainage system on Notre-Dame Street. This project aims to modernize aging infrastructure, improve drainage, and strengthen resilience to climate change. Work is expected to begin around June 23, 2025, and is scheduled for completion by winter 2025. For any questions or concerns, you can contact Coalwater Excavation Inc. directly, or reach out to the project manager from the Russell Township Infrastructure Department by email at infrastructure@russell.ca or by phone at 613-443-1747.
