Hello! This is Manuela Dascal and you are listening to the CJRO Radio local news.

The Ottawa City’s Solid Waste Services team is going to re-establish the Community Liaison Committee for the Capital Region Resource Recovery Centre, following Council’s direction in late 2025. As announced by Councillor Isabelle Skalski,  the City will be sending invitations to former Committee members and representatives from the Township of Russell, the Vars community and South Nation Conservation Authority. The inaugural meeting is expected to take place in September 2026.

Following the first meeting, the Committee will consider whether additional members are needed. If so, the City intends to undertake a broader recruitment process and promote the opportunity through a public information session later this fall.

Starting August 2026 till summer 2027 Health Canada, with support from the City of Ottawa, will conduct a research study examining the relationship between radon in groundwater and indoor radon levels in homes. Participation is voluntary and may involve in-home radon monitoring and limited well water sampling. Residents selected for the study will be contacted before the study begins. Previous groundwater testing found radon levels in drinking water were below health-based thresholds.
