CJRO Radio News - September 29, 2025

Updated: Oct 27, 2025

Hello, this is Manuela Dascal and you are listening to CJRO Radio local news.

The Ontario government is investing $9.6 million in water infrastructure in Embrun, enabling growth and new housing opportunities that will help meet provincial and federal housing targets, while supporting Russell Township’s commitment to sustainable, well-managed development. The funding is being delivered through the province’s Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund (HEWSF), a stream of the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program (MHIP)

The funding will allow Embrun to rebuild storm sewers and install a new watermain along approximately 2.5 kilometres of Notre-Dame Street, stretching from the roundabout at Notre-Dame and St-Guillaume eastward. This project will strengthen the water and stormwater systems, support community growth, and pave the way for new housing.

On September 30, Canadians come together to honour Survivors of residential schools, their families, and communities, while reflecting on the lasting impacts of these institutions.

This year, for the first time, the Township of Russell will raise the Survivors' Flag from September 24 until October 1, 2025. The Survivors’ Flag is an expression of remembrance, meant to honour residential school Survivors and all the lives and communities impacted by the residential school system in Canada. Each element depicted on the flag was carefully selected by Survivors from across Canada, who were consulted in the flag’s creation.
