Tewin plans point to a larger community in southeast Ottawa -

The proposed Tewin development could eventually be home to about 20,000 more people than originally planned.

According to CBC News, updated plans show the community could ultimately accommodate between 52,400 and 64,500 residents, compared with the earlier estimate of 35,000 to 45,000.

The application currently before the City of Ottawa covers 445 hectares. Developers have identified another 169 hectares to the south as potentially suitable for future development, but they are not seeking approval to build on that land now.

Some residents near Piperville Road are concerned about traffic, wetlands, wildlife and the loss of the area’s rural character. The development team says its plans include protected natural corridors and a walkable, transit supportive community.

The developers’ timeline points to possible building permits in 2028. The full community is not expected to be completed until 2045 or later.
